Matt Pinkett has been teaching English for over a decade. As well as this, he has written two best-selling books on adolescent masculinity (‘Boys Don’t Try?’ and ‘Boys Do Cry’) and spends lots of his time talking to students, staff and parents about topics ranging from boys’ mental health to misogyny to combatting sexual harassment. In his free time he likes to beat his daughter at monopoly.
In this talk, Matt Pinkett examines the problem of toxic masculinity in schools and provides advice to teachers as to how they can combat misogyny and sexual harassment in schools.
Dr Steve Murray, Trust Lead for Data Insights and Research at Trust in Learning Academies (TiLA). Steve has a MSc and PhD in Climate Science and has taught geography in a number of secondary schools in North Bristol. He also has experience in middle and senior leadership, with both pastoral and pedagogical responsibility. Steve supports TiLA in drawing insights from data for supporting school improvement, and linking educational research to classroom practice, in order to enhance teacher CPD and improve students’ academic progress.
