This webinar comes to you as part of a supportive new series from the Chartered College of Teaching, designed for student teachers as they take their first steps into the profession, which can sometimes feel daunting.
This session aims to:

- Understand how to use adaptive strategies to suit the diverse needs of your learners.
- Learn strategies to establish routines that support smooth transitions and create a positive space for learning.
We will by joined by sector experts to offer practical strategies, evidence‑informed insight, and space to reflect as you take your first steps into the classroom.
Yamina Bibi is an award winning former Deputy Headteacher, author and English Teacher from London. Yamina is currently the Chiltern Teaching School Lead for Strategic Partnerships and School Transformation at leading a range of projects including the Mission 44 funded Increasing Diversity in ITT project in partnership with Being Luminary and Chartered College of Teaching. As well as leading this project, Yamina is a nationally and internationally recognised Teaching and Learning Consultant empowering schools to enhance teacher and leader practice and implement equity led policies and processes to support all students and staff to thrive.
As author of ‘The Little Guide for Teachers: Thriving in Your First Years of Teaching’, a podcast host and a contributing writer to a number of other publications, Yamina’s impact is far reaching and wide across the sector. This has led to her receiving numerous accolades such as the Times Educational Supplement’s Team English of the Year, We Are The City’s Rising Star Award in Education and Academia, Jack Petchey’s Leader Award and Pearson’s Unsung Hero.
Alongside her writing, Yamina is a Founding Member of South Asian Educators’ Network, a Belonging Effect Associate Trainer and #WomenEd Network Leader driving diversity, equity and inclusion across the education sector.
Jonathan (Jonny) Wainman is a secondary school lead teacher for Psychology and Assistant Director of Sixth Form at John F. Kennedy Catholic School in Hertfordshire. Alongside teaching, he has held a range of responsibilities across Sixth Form leadership and Teaching and Learning, with a particular interest in evidence-informed practice and how research can be translated meaningfully into the classroom.
Jonathan is currently completing a Master’s in Education, with his research exploring teachers’ and school leaders’ experiences of implementing metacognitive practice in secondary education. He has been a member of the Chartered College of Teaching for approximately four years, having first joined as an Early Career Teacher, and has remained actively engaged with its work around research-informed professional practice.
James Blake is an Assistant Principal at an all ability secondary state school in Kent where he is responsible for curriculum (MYP, Art, Languages, and Technology),Transition, and Learning Environments. With a background prior to teaching in Graphic Design and Branding, James is interested in how people interact with the environments around them and how visuals, alongside established habits and routines, can support and encourage better focus and learning.
