DfE NPQ Roundtable with Patrick Carey

Members Only

FELLOWS ONLY

The Chartered College will be hosting an online roundtable on Monday 12th May, 4-5pm with DfE’s Patrick Carey, exploring the review of NPQs.

The department announced the review of NPQs in January 2025 – National professional qualifications framework review – GOV.UK. NPQs are part of the department’s core professional development offer. Reformed in 2021 to focus on the best and most up to date research in teaching and education leadership, the NPQ frameworks are now due to be reviewed to ensure they remain relevant and rooted in the best available evidence.

In this session you will hear insights from NPQ evaluation to date, learn about the approach the DfE is taking to reviewing NPQs and take part in a discussion about how NPQs could be improved in future. This is an opportunity to share your experiences and feedback and engage in conversation with DfE officials leading the review.

Initial insights on the programme from those who have participated in the 2021 suite can be found at: Evaluation of 2021 national professional qualifications – GOV.UK and NPQ frameworks can be found here.

Patrick is currently the Director for School Workforce within the Department for Education, leading on pay, training and other conditions for teachers, leaders and support staff across the English school system. He has worked in a range of strategy, policy and delivery roles across health, education and the Cabinet Office, and before joining the civil service he worked as a consultant in public service delivery, having started his career as a teacher.
