This discussion, based on some of the key themes of Autumn’s issue of Impact, will ask the big questions about research and the teaching profession, with a focus on the robustness, reliability and relevance of research findings for varied education settings and the children they serve.
Our guest-editor-led panel will be made up of Issue 22 authors who have wide-ranging experience spanning both teaching and research backgrounds. They unite in this event to examine the nuances, strengths and limitations of varying approaches to applying research findings in classroom contexts.

Professor Tanya Ovenden-Hope
Professor (Dr) Tanya Ovenden-Hope is Dean of Place and Social Purpose and Professor of Education at Plymouth Marjon University and Plymouth Marjon University, Cornwall, and Visiting Professor at Canterbury Christ Church University. Tanya is a committed and enthusiastic educationalist with over three decades’ experience in schools, colleges and universities in England as a teacher, teacher educator, educational leader and educational researcher. Tanya holds the highest professional status for teaching and learning in schools (Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching), colleges (Fellow of the Society of Education and Training) and Universities (Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). Tanya is in her second term as an elected BERA council member, Board Member for the International Council in Education for Teaching (ICET) and Advisory Board Member for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Teacher Development Fund. She also holds invited advisory and voluntary roles across a range of Education organisations and charities.
Tara Kiran Kurre
Tara is a teacher educator at Azim Premji University, Bangalore, where she teaches courses on science pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment to Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) students (a teacher certification program in India). In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is part of the university’s professional practice team, supervising student teachers during their school internships. Tara also conducts workshops for public and private school science teachers to enhance their science teaching capacities.
Claire Badger
Claire Badger is the assistant head, teaching and learning at The Godolphin and Latymer School in London, a position she has held since 2015. She holds a Masters in teaching and learning from UCL’s Institute of Education and is fascinated by how research from cognitive science can help us all become better teachers and learners. She is a founding fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and was part of the first cohort to complete the CTeach (Leadership) course in 2022. She is currently writing a book on Creativity and Cognitive Science with Jonathan Firth, edited by InnerDrive.
Robert Caudwell
Robert Caudwell is the Co-founder of Penrose Education – the EdTech company behind the Mosaic platform. He holds an undergraduate MA in International Relations, an MA in Education and Leadership and is currently studying for an MSc in Systems Thinking in the Public Sector. He has experience designing, managing the delivery of and facilitating on various ITE, ECF and NPQ programmes – as well as leading the teacher development offer for a large Multi Academy Trust. At Penrose Education, Robert works with ITE providers to support the design, delivery and management of their teacher training and education programmes via Mosaic. Robert is a Fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching and the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
