FED Roundtable- The Future of our Education Workforce

Members Only

FELLOW ONLY

Our recently published FED National Education Consultation Report 2024 highlights the urgency of adopting a governance model that aligns education policy with long-term societal needs and aspirations. The cornerstone of this vision is a bold yet practical set of proposals designed to future-proof our education system and deliver sustainable, systemwide improvement. Our new governance model for education includes:

  • Adopting a Long-Term Planning Framework
  • Establishing an Education Council
  • Introducing a Chief Education Officer and Associated Office
  • Creating a National Education Assembly

Our shared vision is about creating an education system that is resilient, inclusive, and prepared for the future. Collaboration has never been more critical. By bringing together voices from the education workforce and leaders, policymakers, parents/carers, learners, business and other stakeholders we can create a unified approach to education reform.

This year the FED is  engaging in deep discussions on the following important topics for our education system:

  • The Education Workforce
  • MATs, School and Education Partnerships
  • Inclusion
  • Student Financial Wellbeing
  • AI for education
  • Innovation and Creativity

In this roundtable, we would like to focus on the Future of our Education Workforce. We would love to hear ideas from Fellows that would support the development of a whole-system, strategic, long-term approach to the recruitment, development and retention of our education profession. Key areas we would like to explore are:

  1. Creating excellent professional development pathways for our education workforce
  2. Nurturing teacher agency and autonomy
  3. Recruiting the next generation into the profession: What is the incentive for learners to join the education workforce?
  4. Increasing the diversity of our workforce, especially amongst education leaders
  5. Anything else you would like to discuss in relation to the Future of our Education Workforce

The session will be hosted by Jenna Crittenden ( Teacher Advocacy Lead at the Chartered College of Teaching) and introduced by Dame Alison Peacock (CEO of CCT). Colleagues from FED, Rania Marandos, Jo Malone and Kerri Hall will be joining to facilitate discussions.
