In this Future of Teaching event, Professor Dame Alison Peacock CEO, Chartered College of Teaching, is joined by the Shadow Minister for Schools, Stephen Morgan MP and Tes Editor, Jon Severs, to discuss the importance of supporting teacher recovery.  What is the current status, and what needs to happen in government and elsewhere to support teacher recovery?

Our Presenters

Stephen Morgan – is Labour’s first ever Member of Parliament for Portsmouth South, elected for the first time in 2017. Stephen served as Shadow Armed Forces Minister from January 2020 until December 2021, when he was promoted to Shadow Schools Minister.  A former councillor and charity chief executive, he attended local state schools in the city he was born in and now represents, before attending university.  Stephen has previously served as chair of governors at a local primary school and as a governor at a secondary school.

Jon Severs – Jon Severs is editor at Tes. He was previously commissioning editor for 8 years, specialising in Teaching and learning and research. 

Aimée Tinkler FCCT – Head of School and KS1 teacher (Carsington and Hopton CofE Primary School) Aimée has been a teacher for almost 20 years and currently teaches in a mixed KS1 class in a small village Primary school in rural Derbyshire where she is also Head of School. She is an active Specialist Leader in Education and Evidence Leader in Education and enjoys working with colleagues and student teachers on their path through the profession. Aimée has wide-ranging experience of working within all Primary ages and has held leadership positions in a range of schools in both urban and rural locations.  Aimée is Vice-President of the Chartered College and a Founding Fellow, and currently chairs the Membership Committee.

Suneta Bagri FCCT –  Interim Head Teacher experienced in working within challenging school contexts whilst maintaining staff morale and prioritising wellbeing.  She is an award winning Professional Development Coach for Head Teachers, Well-being Consultant and a DfE approved Trainer for Senior Mental Health Leads. She supports the training of ECTs in her role as Senior Lecturer at Birmingham City University and works as an Associate for the leading charity Education Support. Suneta is founder of The Every Teacher Matters Project/Cultivate Coaching & Consultancy.  The network helps a community of like-minded professionals to make well-being their priority, learn, share, and belong through supportive networking and on-going events. Suneta is also co-founder and CEO of Teach Well Toolkit whereby both herself, and Steve Waters, work with school leaders and senior mental health leads to support and implement a culture of wellbeing.

Sonya Lanckham FCCT  –  As the Strategic Leader for Teaching and Learning at Windsor Academy Trust, Sonya coaches and works alongside the Teaching and Learning team across 9 schools and is relentless in her quest to ensure that Teaching and Learning sits at the heart of every school within the Trust family. Sonya received a National Leading Aspect award for CPD Leadership in 2009. In 2010, she was appointed by Worcestershire LA to work with schools which were causing concern, including those in a category.  Her leadership and belief in coaching were further recognised in 2015 when Windsor High School and Sixth Form received the National Coachmark Gold Standard Award, making it one of the first high schools in England to be given the highest standard of excellence.   Sonya is an SLE and has been invited to share her work with Sir Tim Brighouse as well as the West Midlands and National Schools Commissioners. She is a Founding Fellow and Regional Advocate for the Chartered College of Teaching. 

Emma Johnson –  Emma is an ECT2 at Goldsmith Primary Academy in Walsall. She studied at the University of Worcester and successfully gained a BA (Hons) in Primary Initial Teacher Education in 2020. Through the instructional coaching programme at Goldsmith Primary Academy, Emma has been provided with strategies and techniques to further her teaching practice and pedagogy. She is an aspiring future leader within education and is continuing to develop herself professionally with the support of the ECT programme and Windsor Academy Trust. 

Professor Dame Alison Peacock, Chief Executive of the Chartered College of Teaching, a Professional Body that seeks to raise teacher status through celebrating, supporting and connecting teachers to provide expert teaching and leadership.  Prior to joining the Chartered College, Dame Alison was Executive Headteacher of The Wroxham School in Hertfordshire.  Her career to date has spanned Primary, Secondary and advisory roles. She is an Honorary Fellow of Queens College Cambridge and UCL, a Visiting Professor of both the University of Hertfordshire and Glyndŵr University and a trustee for Big Change.  Her research is published in a series of books about Learning without Limits offering an alternative approach to inclusive school improvement.
