Guidance for maintained schools and academies in England on provision for transgender pupils

We have supported the development of guidance for schools which has been jointly produced by a number of national education associations.

This briefing was provided to aid members pending the anticipated publication of guidance by the Department for Education (DfE). On the 19^th December 2023, the DfE released a consultation on draft non-statutory guidance on gender-questioning children.

We would encourage leaders, governors, and trustees to review the draft guidance when considering any approaches but recognise that its draft status means it not agreed policy at this time and may change following the consultation.

Once the DfE guidance has been finalised; we will review this joint guidance accordingly.
