Why personalised professional development is essential for teacher efficacy

Charlotte Whitfield, Head of English, Ash Manor School, UK Like all professional bodies, the education industry is obligated to focus on continuous training for their staff; I believe that a model of personalised continual professional development (CPD) is essential to ensure that this training is as effective as possible. While it is widely acknowledged that we do need to drive the progress of educators to ensure that effective teaching takes place consistently, it could be argued that few schools are getting this right. With teacher retention figures highlighting the growing problems in education, perhaps a look at how we support teacher development may be part of the answer.  Personalised learning is known to be an effective model to support students in the classroom, yet it is not often used in teacher development. By examining the issues facing teachers at different stages of their careers, we can tailor a curriculum of learning to support our profession to become more effect
