Using research well to drive improvement in schools

Calls for research-informed improvement are everywhere in education, but what does it mean to use research well? What does it look like in practice, and how can it be supported in schools?

This session from researchers and educators involved in the Monash Q Project in Australia will explore how to model, support and involve others in using research well. It will share examples and insights from Q partner schools, as well as project tools and resources.

Mark Rickinson is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. Mark currently leads the Monash Q Project, a five-year partnership with the Paul Ramsay Foundation to improve the use of research in Australian schools.

Jo Gleeson is a Senior Research Fellow with the Q Project in the Faculty of Education at Monash University. Jo’s research is focused on educational evidence use, and improving adolescents’ career identity, employability and education-work transitions.

Natalie Manser is Assistant Principal for Learning and Teaching at Wantirna College in Melbourne, Australia. Previously, Natalie has been an Assistant Principal at several state secondary schools and a Leading Teacher of Differentiation, Pedagogy, Student Services and Student Wellbeing.

Kate Harvey is Deputy Principal at Hoxton Park Public School in Sydney, Australia. Previously, Kate has been an Assistant Principal leading teams within the school setting and a Curriculum Leader driving pedagogical change at Hoxton Park Public School.
